our favorite gluten free hamburger buns we used cheddar on these burgers
there are lots of plant-based cheeses and the best come from my kitchenour favorite healthy meatless burgers Pea Protein Cheeseburger on lightly toasted gluten free buns
I’ve had chickpea burgers, falafel burgers, black bean burgers and what feels like a revolving door of delicious “health food” that doesn’t quite scratch my juicy meaty burger fix. When I first saw these Meatless Farm Co Meat Free Burgers out of the corner of my eye at the 99 Cent store I turned to my partner with a little laugh and told him I was going to go read the ingredients expecting to find “seitan” aka “vital wheat gluten” as the first ingredient. A minute later I returned to our shopping cart with two packages that were met with a raised eyebrow and a smirk. I was convinced that for $2.99 a package these burgers had to taste terrible like rubbery shoe leather. I was one hundred percent wrong. Juicy, tender, chewy with the texture of beef, when prepared medium rare there’s this lovely red center when I bite into it and covered in my Secret Burger Rub* I was fully emerged in a burger experience while still nourishing my body with all 9 essential amino acids and a laundry list of vitamins and minerals. Finally a 100% Plant Based burger that scratches my burger fix. Hallelujah. Of course the big test was at a friendly outdoor BBQ with a group of hard-core carnivores. None of them could believe they were eating vegetarian 100% plants! After a few high fives and showing everyone the packages several of our carnivore friends got inspired to embrace plant based nutrition. These have become staples in my kitchen and I always stock up on these whenever I’m passing by a 99 Cent store.
